Komodo yacht charter on a private phinisi: one all-in rate, fuel included, and what stays outside
Updated 23 October 2026
A Komodo yacht charter on Thalassa is priced per boat, not per person. 3D2N on Thalassa 1 (up to 11 guests) is IDR 50,500,000 (≈ USD 3,098) for 1 to 5 guests; on Thalassa 2 (up to 27) it is IDR 112,500,000 (≈ USD 6,902) for 12 to 16. Fuel is included in the price.
The all-in rate and the fare's edge, in one block
A private Thalassa charter is priced for the whole boat, not per person. The table gives the 2026 rate for each boat, route and guest band, and every cell is a price for the whole boat.
Thalassa 1 has two bands, 1 to 5 guests and 6 to 11. Thalassa 2 has three, 12 to 16, 17 to 19 and 20 to 27, and groups under 12 pay the 12 to 16 band. Fuel is already included in every rate, so the quote shows one all-in figure for your band, confirmed in writing before you pay.
Put together, the total has two parts: the all-in rate, and whatever sits outside the fare. The edge of the fare is the list further down, which starts with park tickets and the guide.
What you hire is a 27 m ironwood-and-teak hull under red sails, with a canoe and 2 SUP boards stowed for the swim stops, or a 35 m hull with a karaoke room. The 4D3N and the day trip are quoted on request, with no figures on this page.

What one guest pays, from 2 to 27
Divide the boat by the people aboard and the picture shifts. These 3D2N figures are all-in per guest, fuel included: Thalassa 1 at 2 guests IDR 25,250,000 (≈ USD 1,549), at 8 guests IDR 8,190,000 (≈ USD 502), at 11 guests IDR 5,950,000 (≈ USD 365); Thalassa 2 at 12 guests IDR 9,380,000 (≈ USD 575), at 20 guests IDR 6,220,000 (≈ USD 382), at 27 guests IDR 4,610,000 (≈ USD 283).
Two things follow. Below 12 guests Thalassa 2 gets no cheaper, so a small party belongs on Thalassa 1. On Thalassa 1 the 6th guest moves the boat into the second band, which is why 5 guests pay IDR 10,100,000 (≈ USD 620) each on 3D2N and 6 guests pay IDR 10,920,000 (≈ USD 670). The lowest figure on either boat is 27 guests on Thalassa 2, at IDR 4,610,000 (≈ USD 283).
Included, excluded, and the line we draw
Included in the rate: free pickup and drop-off from the airport, hotel or harbor, with the time confirmed in writing, an air-conditioned cabin and meals as listed in the itinerary. Coffee, tea and mineral water are free through the day, with an afternoon snack. Snorkeling gear, the canoe, the paddle boards and the harbor clearance fee are included, and a cruise leader, captain and crew sail with you.
Excluded, and this is the part that sets the real budget: flights to Labuan Bajo, hotel nights, travel insurance, a drone permit and a gratuity for the crew. Komodo National Park tickets and ranger fees are never part of the fare. On a private charter the guide and photo and video documentation are not included; both are available on request and quoted separately.
The line we draw is plain. Anything not named in your written quote is not in the fare. Missing something, say a guide for the Komodo trek or a photographer for sunrise on Padar? Ask, and it comes back as its own line in the quote.
Park costs are paid per person per day under the park's own tariff: IDR 250,000 for foreign guests and IDR 50,000 for Indonesian citizens on weekdays, IDR 75,000 at weekends. The ranger fee and local levies are not charged on their own: they sit in KEXI's park package with the government ticket (IDR 250,000 per foreign visitor per day, PP 36/2024), paid on top of the boat price unless your quote says it is included.

A boat that stays in port: the substitute-boat guarantee
Now and then a boat stays at the mooring. When a breakdown, the harbor master or the park keeps Thalassa in port, we put you on a phinisi of the same class or higher on the same dates at no extra cost, or refund you in full within 14 days.
That promise covers a breakdown and an order from the harbor master or the park. It does not cover a change of route, because weather and tide change routes and that is the captain's decision on the day. A strong swell can change the order of the morning stops, and the tide decides between Taka Makassar and Manta Point for the afternoon stop. The trip still sails, with the stops in a different order.
What you can count on is the written part. The substitute is a phinisi of the same class or higher, on the same dates, with no extra cost to you, and the refund option runs for 14 days.
The deposit is 50 percent of the quote, and the rest is paid 30 days before you sail. Cancellation before sailing follows a scale: 50 percent back at 60 days or more, 25 percent at 30 to 59 days.
| Deposit | 50 percent of the total |
| Balance | 30 days before |
| Bookings inside 30 days pay in full | |
| Children | Under 3 free, accompanied by a parent |
| Prices include 11 percent VAT · Passport details 7 days before sailing |
Deposit 50% to confirm, balance 30 days before departure. You can also settle the balance in Labuan Bajo on the departure day, in cash or by card on the EDC machine. Fees: card payment link 3%, PayPal 7.2%, EDC card machine 3%. Your issuing bank may add its own charges.
Three steps to a written quote
A charter takes three steps to book, and none of them involves a form.
Step one is a message. Send the boat (1, 2 or not sure), the dates, the number of guests, the occasion and which you prefer: private charter or open trip. "Not sure which boat" is a perfectly good first message.
Step two is the quote in writing. It shows one all-in rate for your band, fuel included, and the list of what stays outside. Nothing is added after you have said yes.
Step three is the deposit of 50 percent, then the balance 30 days before sailing. The how to book page walks through the payment methods and the cancellation scale in full.

Other lengths and the 2027 rate
The 4D3N and the day trip are quoted on request, and we print no figures for them here. Ask for them in your first message and our team prices them from the owner's current rates.
High season carries a supplement: 10 percent on the private charter rate for 23 to 27 December 2026 and for 30 December 2026 to 2 January 2027. Your written quote shows it as a line if your dates fall inside those windows. It applies to private charters and not to an open-trip seat.
The rates on this page are the 2026 rates. The price list in force applies until the 2027 list is issued; if it changes before the balance is due, we tell you first and you can cancel without charge. Private charters can be reserved for 2027 dates today.
One limit belongs here too. The Thalassa 2 table is one price per band for the whole boat, not per person: 12 guests do not pay IDR 112,500,000 (≈ USD 6,902) each. Our quote always states the whole-boat total.
FAQ
How much does a private Komodo charter cost?
For 3D2N the whole of Thalassa 1 costs IDR 50,500,000 (≈ USD 3,098) for 1 to 5 guests and IDR 65,500,000 (≈ USD 4,018) for 6 to 11. Thalassa 2 costs IDR 112,500,000 (≈ USD 6,902) for 12 to 16 guests. These are 2026 all-in rates, fuel included.
Are there hidden fees or surprise costs on a Komodo charter?
No fee is hidden if you read the quote. It lists one all-in rate, fuel included, and what stays outside: park tickets, ranger fees, flights, hotel, insurance, a drone permit, crew gratuity, and on a private charter the guide and documentation.
What is the difference between the quoted price and the final invoice?
None, if your plans do not change. The quote carries one all-in rate with fuel included, and the invoice repeats it. Park fees, crew gratuity and any guide or photographer you add on request are separate lines and are paid on top.
What deposit and payment terms apply to a charter?
The deposit is 50 percent when you accept the quote, and the balance is due 30 days before sailing. PayPal carries a fee of 7.2 percent; bank transfer in rupiah and a card payment link are also accepted, and the quote lists the options.
What happens if weather forces an itinerary change?
The captain decides, on the day, from wind, tide and the harbor master's orders. Stops move or swap, and the trip still sails. If the boat cannot sail at all, the substitute-boat guarantee applies.
What is the minimum group size for a Komodo charter?
Thalassa 1 has no minimum, so a couple can hire the whole boat for the 1 to 5 guest band. Thalassa 2 starts at 12 guests; a smaller group pays the 12 to 16 band, so Thalassa 1 fits them better.
Does a private charter come with a guide?
No. On a private charter the guide and photo and video documentation are not included; both are available on request and quoted separately. A cruise leader and crew sail with every trip.
