Komodo honeymoon cruise on a five-cabin phinisi with two balcony master cabins

Updated 23 October 2026

A Komodo honeymoon cruise on Thalassa 1 is a 5-cabin phinisi for up to 11 guests, two cabins with a private balcony. The whole boat for two on 3D2N is IDR 50,500,000 (≈ USD 3,098); an open-trip seat starts at IDR 4,050,000 (≈ USD 248) per person for 2D1N.

Why a small boat and a balcony

Thalassa 1 has 5 cabins and carries up to 11 guests. Only 2 of those cabins have a private balcony, the two Master Sea View cabins on the upper deck. A honeymoon booking on an open trip does not guarantee one; on a private charter you choose which cabin is yours.

The balcony is for the first hour of the day. Carry a coffee out at first light, before anyone else on board is awake, and the day starts at the pace the breeze sets. After dinner the balcony gives you a quiet hour that belongs to nobody else.

A beach resort gives you one beach. A phinisi carries the bedroom with it: Padar at dawn, Pink Beach at midday, Kalong at dusk, and nobody packs a bag between them. The hull is ironwood and teak, 27 m long and 5.8 m wide, with red sails, a shaded sundeck with bean bags, a canoe and 2 SUP boards for the hours when you want to be on the water rather than beside it.

Two ways to sail as a couple: a cabin or the whole boat

For two people on a private charter you pay for the whole boat, and the 1 to 5 guest band covers up to five. Two guests on 3D2N pay IDR 50,500,000 (≈ USD 3,098); on 2D1N the figure is IDR 41,500,000 (≈ USD 2,546). That price already includes fuel, so your quote shows one all-in rate. You pick the cabin and the dates, the route is yours, and nobody else comes aboard.

On an open trip you pay per person and share the boat with other guests, up to 11 in all. Seats start at IDR 4,050,000 (≈ USD 248) per person for 2D1N and IDR 6,650,000 (≈ USD 408) per person for 3D2N, rates from 2026. The balcony Master cabin on an open trip is on request. Departures are scheduled one-off dates; the next is Thursday, 12 November 2026, and 4 dates remain this year: 12 to 14 November (3D2N), 19 to 20 November (2D1N), 11 to 13 December (3D2N) and 18 to 19 December (2D1N).

Two seats cost less than the whole boat. The difference buys the date you chose, the route at your own pace, and a balcony you can count on. The whole-boat charter page lists every band, and the Cabins page shows which cabin sits where.

Three days for two, by their light

Before breakfast. Day 1 starts with the free pickup from the airport, hotel or harbor, boarding and a safety briefing, then lunch on board and the short hill walk at Kelor. Day 2 is the early one. Guests leave the boat for Padar about 65 minutes before sunrise, which is 06:18 in July and around 05:30 in November, and the climb takes 25 to 45 minutes. Breakfast is waiting on board when you come down.

The still hours. The hot, still hours belong to the water: Manjarite on day 1, then on day 2 a ranger-led walk on Komodo, Pink Beach, the Taka Makassar sandbar or Manta Point. Sightings of mantas depend on tide and current and are never promised. Day 3 is Kanawa for a last swim and the return to Labuan Bajo.

After the anchor drops. On day 1 the boat is at Kalong when the flying foxes leave the mangroves at dusk, and dinner is laid on deck once the anchor is down. The captain chooses each night's anchorage on the day, by the weather.

Three days and two nights is the length we recommend for a honeymoon, because day 2 can start at dawn and still end slowly. Two days and one night is the minimum: Kelor, Manjarite, Kalong, then Padar and Pink Beach on day 2. The 3 days, 2 nights page has the full stop list.

When to book, and the months that suit

July and August fill first: the anchorages are busiest and the seas are windier. April to June and October to November are calm and clear, with fewer boats than high summer. December to March is wet season; the sea is rougher in January and February, the anchorages are quiet, and manta sightings are at their best.

Book early, because a date is only held once the 50 percent deposit is in, and the remainder is settled 30 days before you sail. For Christmas and New Year the private charter rate carries 10 percent for 23 to 27 December 2026 and for 30 December 2026 to 2 January 2027, and your written quote shows it.

The rates shown are for 2026. A 2027 honeymoon is priced from the current list until the owner publishes the 2027 one; if that changes your price before the balance is due, we tell you first and you may cancel without charge.

Month by month
MonthSeaVisibilityMantasCrowdsRain
JanuaryroughlowpeaklowwetWet season at its height: heavy showers and the roughest water of the year, with low visibility. Few boats are out and manta sightings are at their best, so it suits a couple who want an empty anchorage and accept a swell.
FebruaryroughlowpeaklowwetStill wet, with rough water and low visibility. The anchorages are quiet and the mantas stay. A honeymoon here trades calm for solitude.
MarchmoderatemediumgoodlowwetThe last wet month. Showers ease, the sea settles to moderate and visibility climbs to medium, with few boats about.
AprilcalmhighfairmediumdryApril opens the dry months: flat water, and some of the clearest reef of the year below the hull. Crowds sit at a medium level.
MaycalmhighfairmediumdryDry, calm and clear. Snorkel and trek days are the most predictable of the year, and the evening deck is still and warm.
JunecalmhighfairmediumdryDry and clear. The south-east wind begins to build toward July, so mornings under sail are livelier.
JulyroughmediumpeakhighdryThe dry wind is up: a choppier sea, medium visibility and the busiest anchorages of the year. Mantas are at their peak.
AugustroughmediumpeakhighdryThe windiest dry month, with busy anchorages. Mantas feed in season, and the water stays at medium clarity.
SeptembermoderatehighpeakmediumdryThe breeze softens and the water clears to high visibility again. Mantas are in season and the crowd drops to medium, a strong month for a couple.
OctobercalmhighfairmediumdryCalm, clear and hot, and the anchorages are emptier than in July and August. A quiet month for a honeymoon.
NovembercalmhighfairlowdryThe dry season closes with calm water, clear views and some of the quietest stops of the year, the easiest month for a slow honeymoon.
DecembermoderatemediumpeakmediumwetThe rains begin, and with them the mantas return. Holiday weeks are crowded, and a 10 percent charter supplement applies on the dates in your written quote.

Fees and extras for two

Komodo National Park tickets and ranger fees are never part of the fare. The ranger fee and local levies are not charged on their own: they sit in KEXI's park package with the government ticket (IDR 250,000 per foreign visitor per day, PP 36/2024), and it comes on top of the boat price unless your written quote lists it as included.

The fare covers the free pickup and drop-off from the airport, hotel or harbor, meals as listed in the itinerary, coffee, tea and mineral water, an afternoon snack, snorkeling gear and the canoe. It does not cover flights, hotels, travel insurance, crew tips or a drone permit. On a private charter the guide and photo and video documentation are not included; both are available on request and quoted separately. Want a photographer on the sand at Pink Beach or up on the Padar ridge? Ask, and it comes back as a separate line.

Honest limits of a honeymoon booking

Two cabins have a balcony, and an open-trip booking cannot promise one. Every whole-boat rate already includes fuel. Local Wi-Fi on board is a hotspot from the crew's mobile signal. It cuts in and out, there is no satellite internet, and you should not plan on video calls.

For two people, the larger Thalassa 2 is too big: it is sold only as a whole boat, from the 12 to 16 guest band. A wedding group of 12 or more should start on the comparison page.

FAQ

How much does a Komodo honeymoon cruise cost in 2026?

On Thalassa 1 the whole boat for two costs IDR 50,500,000 (≈ USD 3,098) for 3D2N or IDR 41,500,000 (≈ USD 2,546) for 2D1N, one all-in price that includes fuel. An open-trip seat starts at IDR 4,050,000 (≈ USD 248) per person for 2D1N and IDR 6,650,000 (≈ USD 408) for 3D2N. These are the 2026 rates.

Is a private yacht charter worth the cost for a honeymoon in Komodo?

It is worth it when the balcony or the date matters. Two guests pay the 1 to 5 guest band, IDR 50,500,000 (≈ USD 3,098) for 3D2N, and get the cabin of their choice, the route at their own pace and no other guests. If neither matters, an open-trip seat from IDR 4,050,000 (≈ USD 248) per person is the cheaper way onto the same boat.

What is the best cruise duration for a honeymoon in Komodo?

Three days and two nights. Day 2 can open with Padar at dawn and still leave the afternoon for Pink Beach, Taka Makassar or Manta Point, and day 3 ends with a swim at Kanawa. Two days and one night is the minimum, and it skips Komodo, Taka Makassar and Manta Point.

When should couples book a Komodo honeymoon cruise?

As early as your dates are fixed. July and August fill first, and a date is held once the deposit of 50 percent is paid, with the balance due 30 days before sailing. Open-trip dates are limited to 4 this year, so a couple who wants a specific one should ask now.

Is a Komodo honeymoon cruise safe?

Thalassa 1 lists GPS tracking, VHF and SSB radio, a satellite phone, 2 inflatable life rafts of 6 guests each, 20 plus 1 life jackets, 6 fire extinguishers, first aid and emergency oxygen. The captain decides stops and routes by the weather and sea conditions each day.

Are park fees included in the honeymoon price?

No. Komodo National Park tickets and ranger fees are never part of the fare. Ranger fees and local levies sit in the park package, not on a bill of their own.
