Five cabins for three generations

No child-specific facilities, cots or child-size life jackets are listed for Thalassa 1, so none is claimed here. What the boat does have is a layout that sorts a family quietly: two upper-deck Master Sea View cabins with a private balcony, two lower-deck Private cabins with twin beds, and one Share cabin for 3 guests with a king bed and a single bed. All five are air-conditioned with a private bathroom.

A three-generation party of nine could sleep like this: grandparents in one balcony cabin, parents in the other, two children in a twin, two more in the second twin, and a cousin or an aunt in the Share cabin. Four take the two twins, or a balcony Master for the parents and a twin for the children.

The cabin names on the deck plan are Seahorse, Shark, Octopus, Turtle and Diver; which name sits on which cabin type is confirmed with your quote.

Photos of each cabin and the bed-by-bed table are on the Thalassa 1 berths and rates page.

The days with children, at their pace

Day 1, the test walk. Kelor is a short hill of 15 to 30 minutes with a view over the bay, and it shows who wants to climb and who wants the deck. Manjarite after it has shallow reef near the shore, and the canoe and 2 SUP boards give the youngest a way onto the sea without a mask. At Kalong the family watches the flying foxes leave the mangroves at dusk, then dinner and an early night.

Day 2, the early start. Padar takes 25 to 45 minutes on a loose, steep path, and closed shoes matter. Older children and fit grandparents go; the others wait on board with breakfast. Pink Beach follows. On the 3D2N, day 2 adds the Komodo walk with a ranger, 45 to 120 minutes, and Taka Makassar; Manta Point has current, so it is for confident swimmers. Day 3 ends at Kanawa.

Both routes, stop by stop, are on the 2 days, 1 night and 3 days, 2 nights pages.

What a family of 6 or 9 pays

A private charter is priced for the whole boat by band. Five guests or fewer pay IDR 50,500,000 (≈ USD 3,098) for 3D2N. Six to eleven pay IDR 65,500,000 (≈ USD 4,018). A family of 6 therefore pays IDR 10,920,000 (≈ USD 670) each, and a family of 9 pays IDR 7,280,000 (≈ USD 447) each, all-in, in the 6 to 11 guest band.

Children under 3 sail free with an adult; from age 3 a child counts as a guest. That makes the head count at the 5 and 6 boundary worth checking before you ask for a quote. Park tickets are separate: IDR 250,000 per person per day for international guests, IDR 50,000 for Indonesian citizens on weekdays.

Each figure here is a 2026 rate. It already includes fuel, so your quote shows one all-in rate for your guest band.

Safety and rest

Thalassa 1 lists 20 plus 1 life jackets, 2 inflatable life rafts of 6 guests each, 2 ring buoys, 6 fire extinguishers, first aid, emergency oxygen, GPS tracking, VHF and SSB radio and a satellite phone. A tender boat with a 40 HP outboard carries guests to the beaches. The life jackets are not listed by child size, so ask us if you need one for a small child; child sizes are confirmed in writing before you pay.

Managing sun and shade is the real work of the day. Shade is thin at Taka Makassar and on the Komodo trails; hats, long sleeves and reef-safe sunscreen belong in a soft bag, not a hard suitcase. The captain decides the stops by the weather each day.

When the family is larger than 11

Eleven is the ceiling on Thalassa 1. A family of 12 or more needs the larger boat, and the comparison page sets the two side by side. Every Thalassa 1 band is on the Thalassa 1 berths and rates page.

FAQ

Is Komodo suitable for children?

Yes, with a plan for the heat and the walks. Kelor is 15 to 30 minutes up, Padar 25 to 45, and Komodo is ranger-led, 45 to 120 minutes. Child-specific equipment is not listed for Thalassa 1, so the suitability comes from the pace, which the captain and your family set each day.

What is the child policy?

Under 3, a child travels free with an adult, and from 3 counts as a guest. On a private charter the price depends on the band your party falls into, 1 to 5 or 6 to 11 on Thalassa 1, so tell us ages and head count in your first message.

Which cabin for a family of four?

Four take the two twins, or a balcony Master for the parents and a twin for the children. The Share cabin sleeps 3, with a king bed and a single bed, on the lower deck; the twins put two children in one and two adults in the other. All cabins have air conditioning and a private bathroom.

Do we need a guide?

On a private charter the guide and photo and video documentation are not included; both are available on request and quoted separately. The cruise leader and the crew run the boat, and the park requires a ranger on Komodo, paid on shore.

Can grandparents manage Padar?

Plenty of them do. The climb takes 25 to 45 minutes, the path is loose and steep in parts, and the start is about 65 minutes before sunrise. Grandparents who prefer to skip it watch the light from the deck with breakfast, and the family regroups for Pink Beach.
