Twenty-seven meters, five cabins, eleven guests

Thalassa 1 is a 27 m ironwood-and-teak phinisi, 5.8 m wide, with 5 cabins and room for up to 11 guests. We publish eleven, and we hold to it.

The boat sails from Labuan Bajo as a private charter or, on scheduled dates, as an open trip. Every cabin is air-conditioned and has a private bathroom with hot water. Two of the five have a private balcony.

It is the boat for couples, honeymooners and families, and for friends who want a small hull. Eleven is the ceiling, which means a party of 4 or 6 has a whole boat built for 11 to itself.

Upper deck: two Master cabins and their balconies

The Master Cabin Sea View is a double bed with a private bathroom and a balcony, 2 guests each, and there are two of them on the upper deck. Only 2 of the 5 cabins on Thalassa 1 have a balcony. The other three don't, and we tell you that before you choose.

What the balcony is for: standing outside after dinner with the deck gone quiet and the water turned dark. The owner's photos show blue seahorse artwork and teal bedding in the Master. We list the five cabin names (Shark, Octopus, Seahorse, Turtle and Diver) as a set and do not assign them to types.

On a private charter you choose the Master. On an open trip the balcony Master is on request.

Lower deck: two twins and the cabin for three

Two Private cabins on the lower deck have twin beds for 2 guests each, with a private bathroom and air conditioning. The fifth cabin, the Share Cabin, has a king bed and a single bed and takes 3 guests, also with a private bathroom.

The lower-deck cabins have no balcony, and that's the whole difference from the Master.

A family of three takes the Share Cabin and a couple takes a Master. A group of friends splits into the twins. Nothing in the sleeping plan requires strangers to share a cabin on a charter.

Bean bags on the sundeck, a canoe at the stern

Thalassa 1 has an open sundeck and a shaded sundeck, both with bean bags and a speaker, plus fun floats, 2 SUP boards, a canoe and snorkeling gear. There is a 32-inch TV on the upper-deck balcony deck and another in the air-conditioned dining room. There is karaoke.

In the photo of the kitchen there's a steel fridge and a gas range, and every meal on the itinerary is cooked there. Coffee, tea and mineral water are free through the day, with an afternoon snack.

Local Wi-Fi on board is a hotspot from the crew's mobile signal. It cuts in and out, there is no satellite internet, and you should not plan on video calls.
