What luxury means on a Komodo phinisi: an honest checklist
Updated 23 October 2026
Luxury on a Komodo phinisi is checkable: the hull, the cabin, the bathroom, the table on deck and what is not included. Thalassa 1 offers 5 air-conditioned cabins, 2 with a private balcony; Thalassa 2 offers 9 cabins for up to 27 guests. The 3D2N whole boat starts at IDR 50,500,000 (≈ USD 3,098).
Seven checks, in the order a sailor makes them
A sailor looks at the boat before the pictures. Seven checks, in the order we would make them on the quay:
- Hull and wood: what it is made of and how big it is.
- Deck space: where guests sit, eat and sleep outdoors.
- Cabin and bed: air conditioning, mattress, balcony.
- Bathroom: private or shared, hot water or not.
- Crew and safety: who runs the boat and what is on it.
- Food and drink: what is on board, with no invented menu.
- The fare's edges: what is outside the price.
Each of the next four sections takes some of these in turn. The rate is one all-in figure that already includes fuel, quoted in writing, and the 2026 rates apply: Thalassa 1 whole boat for 3D2N is IDR 50,500,000 (≈ USD 3,098), and Thalassa 2 is IDR 112,500,000 (≈ USD 6,902).
The hull and the wood
Both Thalassa boats are phinisi made of ironwood and teak. Thalassa 1 is 27 m long and 5.8 m wide. Thalassa 2 is 35 m long and 7.2 m wide. We publish no year and no tonnage.
The hull is the first place a sailor judges quality: the weight of the wood, the way the deck takes a footstep, the room between the rail and the deckhouse. This page describes what the deck plan and the photos show: Thalassa 1's shaded sundeck with bean bags, the dining room, the upper-deck balcony; Thalassa 2's open sundeck, dining room, lounge and karaoke room.
The cabin and the balcony
Thalassa 1 has 5 cabins and takes up to 11 guests. All five are air-conditioned and have a private bathroom with hot water. Two Master Sea View cabins are on the upper deck, each with a private balcony; two Private twin cabins and one Share cabin for 3 guests are on the lower deck. The cabin names on the deck plan are Seahorse, Shark, Octopus, Turtle and Diver.
Thalassa 2 has 9 cabins and takes up to 27 guests, sold as a whole boat only. Its Master cabin for 3 is on the upper deck, with sea view; four private twins, a shared twin and two bunk cabins complete the plan. The cabins are air-conditioned. Bathroom type and hot water are confirmed in writing before you pay, and so are the details of cabin 4. No Thalassa 2 cabin has a private balcony; the boat has a shared balcony deck on the upper deck.
Meals, and the saloon they come to
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are Asian and Indonesian in style, with coffee, tea, soft drinks, snacks and fresh fruit between, and mineral water free. A chef is among the crew. We print no menu, and we do not name the person at the stove.
Where the food lands is the dining room on each boat: air-conditioned on Thalassa 1 with a 32-inch LED TV, a refrigerator and a water dispenser; on Thalassa 2 a dining room with a cozy area and a mini pantry for coffee and tea. In the evening, once the anchor is down, the table is laid on deck. Special dinners, birthday set-ups and decoration are quoted on request.
What luxury does not include here
No spa, no butler, no jacuzzi and no satellite internet. Local Wi-Fi on board is a hotspot from the crew's mobile signal. It cuts in and out, there is no satellite internet, and you should not plan on video calls.
Not every cabin has a balcony, and bathroom details on Thalassa 2 are confirmed in writing. Outside the fare: flights, hotels, insurance, tips, a drone permit, park tickets and ranger fees. On a private charter the guide and photo and video documentation are not included; both are available on request and quoted separately.
That list is the limit of the word. If the checks above are the ones you wanted, the Compare page sets the two boats side by side, and the occasion pages take the same facts to a honeymoon, a family or a company.
