A Komodo luxury cruise with Thalassa starts with a choice of size: Thalassa 1 (5 cabins, up to 11 guests) or Thalassa 2 (9 cabins, up to 27 guests), both ironwood-and-teak phinisi from Labuan Bajo. The whole boat for 2D1N starts at IDR 37,750,000 (≈ USD 2,316), plus a fuel surcharge per trip.

Two sizes of the same sea: 11 guests or 27

Thalassa 1 and Thalassa 2 are ironwood-and-teak phinisi with red sails that sail the same Komodo route from Labuan Bajo. They differ in scale, not in quality.

Thalassa 1 is 27 m long with 5 cabins for up to 11 guests, two of them upper-deck Masters with a private balcony. It is the boat for couples, honeymooners and families, and the only one that also runs open trips.

Thalassa 2 is 35 m long with 9 cabins for up to 27 guests, with a karaoke room and a long dining room. It is sold as a whole-boat private charter only, never by the cabin or the seat.

Under 12 guests, take Thalassa 1. From 12 to 27, take Thalassa 2. Send us the guest count and we confirm the hull.

The rate for one trip

A private charter is priced per boat. For 3D2N, Thalassa 1 costs IDR 45,250,000 (≈ USD 2,776) for 1 to 5 guests and IDR 60,100,000 (≈ USD 3,687) for 6 to 11. Thalassa 2 costs IDR 105,700,000 (≈ USD 6,485) for 12 to 16 guests, rising by band to IDR 117,500,000 (≈ USD 7,209) for 20 to 27. These are the 2026 rates.

A fuel surcharge is added per trip; it depends on the boat and the trip length and is confirmed in writing before you pay. Park tickets, ranger fees, flights, hotel nights, insurance, a drone permit and a crew gratuity sit outside the fare, and on a private charter the guide and photo documentation are quoted separately on request. The charter page has every band and the per-guest figures.

Three days, two nights: the route

Day 1 runs from Labuan Bajo to Kelor, Manjarite and Kalong, where the flying foxes leave the mangrove at dusk and dinner is laid on deck. Day 2 climbs Padar, walks Komodo with a ranger, swims at Pink Beach and ends at Taka Makassar or Manta Point. Day 3 closes at Kanawa. The 2D1N keeps day 1 and spends day 2 on Padar and Pink Beach.

The captain sets the stop order and the night's anchorage by the weather. The 3D2N page and the 2D1N page carry the full stop tables; a day trip and a 4D3N are quoted on request.

Honeymoon, luxury, couples

Three occasions bring most couples to Thalassa 1.

Honeymoon. The Master Cabin Sea View has a double bed, a private bathroom and a balcony on the upper deck. On a private charter you choose it; on an open trip it is on request, so a honeymoon seat does not guarantee it.

Luxury. The word has a list behind it: an ironwood-and-teak hull, red sails, air conditioning and a private bathroom with hot water in all five cabins, and a quote that shows the fuel line separately.

Couples and anniversaries. Two guests can hire the whole of Thalassa 1 in the 1 to 5 band, or take a seat on an open trip. Dinner on deck once the anchor is down is the same either way.

Thalassa 1 open trip

Thalassa 1 is the only boat that sells seats, priced per person: from IDR 4,050,000 (≈ USD 248) for 2D1N and IDR 6,650,000 (≈ USD 408) for 3D2N, at 2026 rates. The balcony Master is on request, and the park ticket and crew gratuity are paid on top.

Dates are one-off departures. The next is Thursday, 12 November 2026, and 4 are listed. The open-trip page has the seats and cabins.

Eight anchorages

The route has eight named stops: Padar, Pink Beach, Komodo, Manta Point, Taka Makassar, Kalong, Kelor and Kanawa. Each has its own page with what to bring and what the stop is not.

Padar is a viewpoint with a 25 to 45 minute walk up. Komodo is a ranger-led trek, and the dragons are wild. Mantas feed at Manta Point in season; no crew can promise them on a given day. Kalong is watched from the boat at dusk.

Start with the Padar, Komodo and Pink Beach pages, or see all eight.

Season

The dry months run from April to November. September and October are the quiet answer for a honeymoon: the wind eases and the crowd drops. July and August are the windiest and busiest. December to March is the wet season, with showers and rougher water. The best time page sets the months side by side.

Who books the two boats

Thalassa 1 and Thalassa 2 belong to their owner, who runs them and keeps a website of its own. We are PT Komodo Explorer Indonesia (NIB 1805260128363), the booking partner: we sell the trips, answer your questions and carry the responsibility for your booking. Anything still open, such as the bathroom type in each Thalassa 2 cabin, is confirmed in writing before you pay.

Guest reviews and the owner's photos are on the reviews page and in the gallery. They say what they are.

Guest reviews of trips booked with us, not of Thalassa specifically

“They made our 2nd anniversary absolutely perfect. We got to stand just metres away from an actual Komodo dragon — the ranger was right there. The crew even played our song while we watched the sun go down.”

“Pengalaman yang luar biasa!”

“Very good boat, good experience, and fulfilled my dream to see a Komodo dragon.”

FAQ

Which Thalassa suits a honeymoon, a family or a company?

A honeymoon or a family of up to 11 suits Thalassa 1, which has 5 cabins and 2 balcony Master cabins. A company or group of 12 to 27 suits Thalassa 2, with 9 cabins, sold as a whole boat only. Send us the guest count and we'll confirm the hull.

Is a Komodo luxury cruise on a phinisi worth the cost?

The whole of Thalassa 1 for 3D2N starts at IDR 45,250,000 (≈ USD 2,776) for 1 to 5 guests, and it carries them in a private cabin with its own bathroom. A fuel surcharge per trip, park fees, flights and the guide on a private charter sit outside that rate.

Is this the website of the boats' owner?

No. The boats belong to their owner, who has a website of its own. PT Komodo Explorer Indonesia, NIB 1805260128363, is the booking partner that sells the trips, answers your questions and stands behind your booking.

Does a private charter rate include the fuel surcharge?

No. A fuel surcharge is added per trip; it depends on the boat and the trip length and is confirmed in writing before you pay. Your quote shows the rate and the surcharge as two separate lines.

Can I book 2027?

Yes. Private charters can be reserved for 2027 dates. The price list in force applies until the 2027 list is issued; if it changes before the balance is due, we tell you first and you may cancel without charge.
